Summary

You believe that poker is a game of deception. Thus, you do everything you can to fool your opponents. You play strong hands weakly; and weak hands strongly. You love to lay traps and the check-raising gives you the chills!

Aware opponents pick this up quickly and you actually becomes predictable if you never play a hand in a straight-forward style!

You miss a ton of chances of building large pots when you have strong hands. This is a cardinal sin of poker.

With weak hands, you waste plenty of chips trying to make opponents fold.

Ways to Improve

Play direct poker! Learn that opponents will call! Building a large pot by betting a raising a strong hand is the key to poker.

Fancy plays are a great way to keep an opponent off balance--if the opponent is a good player! And if you don't do it too often. Deceptive plays are wise only in about one in a hundred hands, at a low-limit holdem table.

So you need to learn to play by the book a majority of the time, in order to make your fancy plays shine. Once you learn the right balance, you can be effective at higher limits, where deception comes into play.

They need to focus on "value betting" in the examples here at Tilted Donkey. Poker is about winning big pots, usually not about fooling everyone. Try these free tutorials.
