Summary

Fancy players believe that poker is a game of deception. Thus, they do everything they can to fool their opponents. They play strong hands weakly; and weak hands strongly. They love to lay traps and the check-raising gives them chills!

Aware opponents pick this up quickly and the fancy player actually becomes predictable if they never play a hand in a straight-forward style!

Fancy players miss a ton of chances of building large pots when they have strong hands.

With weak hands, they waste plenty of chips trying to make opponents fold.

Ways to Improve

Play direct poker! Fancy players need to learn that opponents will call! Building a large pot by betting a raising a strong hand is the key to poker.

Fancy plays are a great way to keep an opponent off balance--if the opponent is a good player! And if you don't do it too often. Deceptive plays are wise only in about one in a hundred hands, at a low-limit holdem table.

So the Fancy player needs to learn to play by the book a majority of the time, in order to make their fancy plays shine. Once they learn the right balance, they can be effective at higher limits, where deception comes into play.

They need to focus on "value betting" in the examples here at Tilted Donkey.
