The Bossy Poker Player
Other Personality Types
|
Playing Characteristics · Loose
Dangers · Can be intractable and contrary Summary Bossy players like to bet and raise. They seldom just call. They push people around and drive the action. The Bossy player loves to bluff, especially if nobody is betting and/or they are last to act. Skilled players wait for a good hand and then use the Bossy player's aggressiveness to help them build a large multi-way pot. Overall, the Bossy player has "the heart of a great poker player" but not the patience or hand selection or situational knowledge.

Positive Traits · Persistent, determined, and
forceful Ways to Improve Selective aggression is the key to playing poker. The Bossy player has fearless aggression (which is hard to teach) but not the selectiveness (which is easy to teach). So Bossy players can develop quickly if they learn to be more analytical. Learning about odds and starting hand selection, and hand selection in general is paramount for the Bossy player. If you are going to be highly aggressive you need to be playing really tight/weak players or have hands that have some merit. Tilted Donkey has many resources focussing upon hand selection. A full ten player table of holdem can be boring. A Bossy player finds this difficult to deal with even if they know what hands they should be folding--they want some action! So discipline is required. One potential solution for Bossy players is to play at shorthanded tables. A Holdem table with less than 7 players is more suitable for a loose-aggressive playing style.
