Texas Holdem: Straights and Straight Draws

Straights

A straight is a very strong hand in Texas Holdem. It can be the nuts if the board is not paired (a pair allows for a fullhouse or quads) and the board doesn't hold three cards of a single suit (which allows for a flush).

So you definitely want to bet your straights very hard under most circumstances. A straight also has the added bonus that it is often well disguised. This is especially important in no-limit holdem where you can take all of your opponent's chips in devious one hand.
