Rule of 2.2 Examples
Outs and Draws (and the magical rule of four)
Practice Your Skills Our Mini-Game Chances of... tests your knowledge of the odds. Its fun and informative.
|
Use the rule of 2.2 to determine your odds in percentage form when you are dealing with the next card. That is, the chances of hitting a draw from the Flop to the Turn, or from the Turn to the River. With one card to come... Count the number of cards that will help you (called outs) Multiply it by 2.2. This gives your percentage chance of making you hand!
Open-Ended Straight Draws
Count of the cards that will make the straight: There are eight helpful cards left in the deck. Any of the four fives, or four tens will make the straight. Multipy 8 (outs) by 2.2 and you about an 18% chance of hitting the straight.
Gut-Shot Straight Draws From Flop to Turn
Count of the cards that will make the straight: There are four helpful cards (the jacks) left in the deck. Multiply 4 (outs) by 2.2 and you have a 9% chance of hitting the straight on the very next card (on the Turn). (Use the rule of four to determine whether you will hit by the river.)
A Set (three of a kind)
Count of the cards that will make the set: There are two helpful cards left in the deck (the other two nines). Multiply two (outs) by 2.2 which equals an 4.4% chance of hitting the set by the river.
Four of a Kind
Count of the cards that will make two pair (the remaining king): There is only one helpful cards left in the deck. Multiply 1 (outs) by 2.2 which rounds to about a 2% chance of making quads. Etc. You can figure out the odds of any card or cards coming. Carefully count the cards that can help you and multiply it by 2.2! It beats memorizing a bunch of charts. Count you outs then multiply!
